From Fernley we took the state
road 447 north. We were worried that the road
would be closed due to a wildfire
just about a mile from the road, but it was
open and we saw lots of fire units both staged
and heading to the fire.
A little
further north from the fire we took a short
off road
ride around some interesting rock
formations.

The 447 is not exactly a busy
road, except for when Burning Man happens, but
it is a surprisingly interesting ride.
In Gerlach, NV there is a large RV storage which
are most likely used for Burning
Man, jus a few miles up the road. They
even have a part of a big
plane that was used for Burning Man a
few times. |

After we passed Empire and Gerlach
the road actually got curvy
at times and the scenery changed. |

Soon after crossing into
California we rode along burned
hillsides, for miles and miles, from an earlier
wildfire. |

|
After crossing into Oregon we saw
the first forest
again.
It was still
very smokey
from all the wildfires. We had planned to go
to Crater Lake but it was too smokey for a
good view and there was a wildfire at the lake
itself, so we passed on it.

Our last night we camped at Odell Lake
near Oakridge, OR. We got a great camp site with
direct access to the lake. Due to a blue-green
algae warning we didn't swim, but just waded in
a bit to cool off.
