After several miles on the gravel
section of Crooked River Hwy Jayne got a bit of
wobble but continued on, until I noticed she had
a flat tire
and motioned her to stop. Since we were far from
anywhere, with no cell service, I had to change
the inner tube on the side of the road in the
burning sun. None of the 3 passing cars stopped,
two didn't even slow down. |

Two hours later we were back on
the road again. This was my first field tire
repair, ever. Once we got back to the main
road, Hwy 20,
we saw that even there nobody was around that
could have helped us. So it was the right
decision to fix it on site, rather than one of
us riding on trying to find cell service
and/or help. |

In Burns we turned south onto 205 towards
Frenchglen, OR. The road wasn't very exiting,
but had some nice sections. |
|
|
|
We had reserved a room at the historic hotel
in Frenchglen, OR and booked the communal
dinner. We were afraid that we would miss at
least the dinner if not the whole stay there due
to the flat tire, but made it just in time.
Would have been a shame to miss the great
dinner!
If you plan to stay there too, bring mosquito
spray, you'll need it. |

We rode the well maintained gravel
road up the Steens
Mountain. The road is relatively easy
and not very steep. |
|
|
|
From the top one has great views
of the surrounding area and the Alvord
Desert below. Due to wildfire smoke the
view wasn't as clear as we had hoped for, but it
was still nice. |
|
|
|
We enjoyed the views and then
headed back down on the southern part of the
road, which is steeper and has some severe drop
offs.
