Small side roads in Bulgaria
aren't always in a good condition, but the main roads
are usually just fine. |
|
Pobiti Kamani in Bulgaria. looks
like ruins from some ancient culture, but they are
natural stone formations. Just a freak of nature, on
several acres! It is located about 15 km east of Varna.

The founder memorial in Shumen,
Bulgaria is very prominent on top of a
hill, but it doesn't look like much from a
distance. But the inside is stunning.
They brew a pretty good beer in Shumen, the
Shumensko. It is available nearly all over
Bulgaria.
Attention: Do NOT take the
road No. 7 from Shumen south, it is a very
bad one! It is shown on the map as a main
road, but it is NOT! The road No. 46, a
little further west, is in top
condition.

Cyrillic letters are used in
Bulgaria, Macedonia and in the Serbian part of Bosnia.
It not only makes reading traffic signs a challenge, but
also makes reading a restaurant menu impossible,
especially in the countryside, where English or German
doesn't help. |

This is the above mentioned road
No. 7, south of Shumen, Bulgaria. In
parts it is even worse than on these photos.
As usual, you can't really see all the pot
holes on the photo. |

Plovdiv, Bulgaria has a
very pretty old town, and there are lots of
Roman ruins as well. This town is definitely a
"don't miss"! |

The border region in Bulgaria to
Greece has lots of mountains and many nice roads to
discover. But be aware: Many of these roads end as a
dead end in the mountains, and there often is no sign
telling that. |
