Big Eddy has a lot of petroglyphs, many can be reached after a short hike, others are on the other river side and on the high cliffs. Unfortunaltelly the indian tribe stopped selling t-shits with images of the petroglyphs on them. We continued south, through yet another canyon along Hwy 95 with beutiful views. A nice canyon.along the Lower Salmon River with sand beaches. A week earlier we would certainly have jumped in but now it had cooled off. The canyons along ID-Hwy 71 lead us down to Hells Canyon again, We climbed up to the Hells Canyon Overlook. Great views from up there! From there we continued to the nice town of Joseph and on to La Grande. We continued further west through Eastern Oregon and found more canyons. Still don't know why we call it the canyon trip?. We had never been to the painted hills, and since it was somewhat on our way we visited the colorfull hills. A few miles down the gravel road there are a couple of primitive campgrounds. Simple but nice.
