We took a short side trip to see
a historic
rager station. The station wasn't all
that special but the ride to it and back was
fun on a decend grvael road in a stunning
landscape. |

|
|
Further north we rode through yet another
canyon, following the Salmon River for many miles.
|
|
At a ranger station we met a guy
from California on his KLR. He highly
recommended visiting the ghost town of Custer,
just a bit down the road. We would likely not
have seen the tiny sign pointing to it, if we
hadn't been looking for it. So we took yet
another lonely
gravel road to a ghost town. |

It was getting late and the ranger
was just closing up in Custer, but she told us
about the campground
that is just a few miles past the ghost town up
in the woods, so we decided to camp there and
visit the town in the morning.
At night it got smoky and in the morning there
was a lot of
smoke in the woods. We were a bit
nervous and finished breakfast quickly and
packed up. |

We took our time walking through Custer Ghost Town
in Idaho. Many buildings have disappeared but
the remaining ones are worth a visit.
The smoke was from a large wildfire, somewhat
nearby, but still miles away. |
|
|
|
Most remaining buildings still
have some household
items in them, which makes picturing
how they lived a lot easier. There is also a
large ares outside with old tools and other
stuff that was left behind.
