Meziadin
Provincial Park is only about 60 miles
from Steward, BC, but it was getting late and we
decided to stay the night. It's a very nice camp
site at a lake, but be aware of bears. Jayne
went to the bathroom at night and apparently
didn't notice the Grizzly behind her, at least
that's what another camper told us in the
morning. |

The road from Meziadin Junction
to Steward, BC and Hyder, Alaska (37A) leads
through a nice
canyon. |
|
|
|
First stop was just a few
miles in at the Bear
Glacier. The glacier used to go
all the way to the road, but not anymore. |
|
|
|
There really isn't much to see in
the actual town of Hyder,
Alaska. The area is beautiful though. |
|
|
|
A little outside of Hyder, Alaska
is a bear
watching site. The site consists of a
long boardwalk overlooking a creek where Salmon
come to lay eggs. We were told that the best
time to see bears is either early in the morning
or late in the afternoon. We were there around
noon, didn't see any bears, and decided to come
back later. |
|
|
|
We continued on the road out of
Hyder, Alaska to the Salmon
Glacier, which is actually in Canada
again. The road soon turns into gravel but is in
good condition. |
|
|
|
Beware, if you are lucky and see
the Salmon
Glacier in good weather, it will ruin
all other glaciers for you. It is just so
unbelievable beautiful!
