One should, if possible, also
visit the Colosseum by night. With the
nice illumination it is even more impressive
then during the daytime.
Some people day that the inside
of the Colosseum is not interesting. I
absolutely disagree! We took a guided tour, it
was not more expensive then the normal entrance
fee and we got to pass the waiting line.
The "Forum" is a large area of
roman ruins. It helps to imagine how it used to look, if
you have already visited other site like e.g. Pompeii.
The "Santa Maria Sopra Minerva" is,
like all other churches in Rome, completely covered in
marble. Unfortunately this marble was taken from roman
temples and palaces, which now can't show their original
splendor.

Pretty, but only if one doesn't think about what else
one could have done with all this gold and splendor --
maybe help poor people? -- no, rather build another
pretty church.
