Jayne gives the finger to her flat tire
Riding on State Route 299 around Redding we drove through a burned out landscape from the Bute Fire and saw several burned houses along the way.

We followed the winding Trinity River going West.

Crooked River Hwy, 27, Oregon
The ride along the Trinity River through canyons was very nice. The 299 is a great road on a motorcycle. Hwy 20 towards Burns, Oregon

In Willow Creek we turned north onto the 96. Make sure you stock up on gas, food, and water in Willow Creek. The 96 goes through a reservation with nothing available until a small convenient store in Somes Bar. Rd 205 south from Burns

In Somes Bar we turned East again on Salmon River Road. It's a winding road, mostly single lane, with some severe drop-offs. The road is in decent condition with some potholes. Historic Frenchglen Hotel, Oregon

In Cecilville we found this "gas station". We paid the outragous price even though we didn't need gas yet, but we didn't know where we would find gas again.

The road past Cecilville is two lanes and in good condition.

We stocked up on food and beer in Callahan and headed south on 3 to a campground.

We liked the quiet of Eagle Creek Campground and fell in love with the ancient National Forest stoves.
The mostly gravel road getting there is a bit rough, but not too bad.

We enjoyed these old stoves (probably from CCC times) so much that Jayne now wants one for our back yard. Gravel road down from Steens Mountain, south side
