Karte Kentucky 2009

10 Trips / 4872 km
(2878 miles)

We (Jayne and me) moved to the USA in early May 2009, and live for the moment in Kentucky.

This is not one of my normal reports about one of my trips, but I will put up some photos that I took on my more or less short trips in the area.

General Information

The best time to go to Kentucky is certainly NOT the summer. Then it is much too warm and the humidity kills you (at least me).

The road conditions are relatively good, but there are some deep pot holes too, that one has to watch out for. Especially on the Interstates there are often bad stretches that remind one of Eastern Europe.

The language is ofcourse English, but the widely used southern dialect does often make it hard to understand locals.

About safety I can only say that everybody is allowed to carry a gun, and many do. So far I haven't seen any, and I hope it stays this way.

Some of the traffic rules are different from the rules in Europe. You can read up on that here.

Louisville Slugger Museum The Louisville Slugger Museum. The famous wooden Louisville Slugger (Baseball bat) is made here.
Louisville/Kentucky has about 700,000 inhabitants, but after only a few minutes driving out of down town it feels like a small town. Louisville/Kentucky
By now I only did trips in Kentucky and Indiana, but there will be more. Kentucky
Many "old towns" look like out of a Western.
Mammoth Cave
Mammoth Cave has a known cave system of about 587 km (365 miles). Visitors can explore about 24 km (15 miles) of it. We took a 2 hour tour and saw about 3 km (2 miles) of it. Mammoth Cave
