REI Katadyn
Hiker Water-Filter-Pump 185g Ø8x20cm
$ 64,95
I mainly bought this water purifier for motorcycle
trips to Easter Europe and developing countries, but not only, as even a
apparently clean mountain creek, e.g. in Bavaria, could be contaminated
by cows, or better by their faeces.

Since it is quite a bit of work to
filter water with a pump, I take it on my motorcycle travels to be
able to prepare clean water when it is not otherwise available, or
for camping rough. Until now I have not needed to use the pump,
therefore I can not (yet) put up a real test report, but I will as
soon as I have used it "in the field". Conclusion:
It is rather big, but light weight. I will continue to take it on
long trips, and will certainly have to use it at some point.

REI Portable Aqua
Water Purifying Tablets 30g
Ø2,5x5cm
$ 6,75 So far I also haven't had to
use the water purifying tablets, but I read in forums that the
purified water has a very bad taste. So, it seems to be more a
solution for emergency situations, and not for the regular use.
Other manufacturers advertise with a neutral taste, I will try them
when these tablets expire.
Conclusion: Very small, and therefore
always with me on any trip.
